I was looking for a way to help my son in class and ran across these school tips for ADHD children. I plan on printing them out…I think they’ll help when I talk with my son’s teacher. You know, I think a few of them may even help me to get my son to clean up his room!

One of the 10 Most Popular Articles of the Month of May at Additude is about the difficulties you’re faced with being the parent of an ADHD child. Our children are funny, smart, amazing, uninhibited, loving and loved. They are also exhausting! My neighbor has a 4-year old that is very much like my youngest son. On the go all the time, gets very upset if I interupt whatever he was actually focused on at the time. After a very trying day she asked me, “How do you do it?”. The validation felt good…but, “You just do. You watch them and wish you could bottle all of that energy.”

We love our children & don’t want to change who they are as an individual…its part of what makes them so special. A little quiet time is nice, though.

Please read Reasons Your A Great Mom. It’s not just for moms but for anyone in a parenting roll in an ADDer’s life. In the comments section, it’s mentioned that the best part is when your child thanks you for helping them. Getting a ‘Thank you’ doesn’t always happen when your child is young. My oldest recently reached adulthood and told me that he’d been thinking about it and that he wanted to thank me for all that I’d done to help him be himself — ADHD and all.

If you haven’t received a thank you from your child yet…it’ll come. I just wanted to say thank you, the world will be an even more amazing, wonderful place when our children are grown because of all you’ve done to cherish and help your child to be themselves! It’s exhausting, but also a joy!

But, have you ever wondered if your daughter could have ADHD? She’s sweet, and daydreams alot…sometimes the teacher asks if she’s had enough sleep because she almost fell asleep in class?

ADHD is considered a “Spectrum Disorder“, there are many types of ADHD. I found a site that shows a number of the different types, using familiar cartoon characters as examples. Take a look at:

A week ago Saturday (3/7) I had the opportunity to be involved with the Diverse Learner’s Resource Fair in Des Moines. This is an annual event sponsored by Heartland AEA and the Parent-Educator Connection. The event was held at the Botanical Center and there were approximately 75 agencies and service providers on hand for parents and professionals to visit with and learn more information. There were also a couple of workshops in conjunction with the exhibit hall that people could take advantage of at no cost. It was a great chance to meet with parents and professionals and introduce them to our product. There was definitely a buzz about the b-Calm system as people strolled by our table and more often than not stopped to listen to the tracks and ask questions. It was nice to be able to inform parents that we were in the process of giving schools free trials. A number of them expressed interest in having their child be a part of that. That was encouraging to hear.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the number of people who stopped and talked with me and mentioned they had heard about us and came specifically to our exhibit to get more information. Seems like word is getting out. So, thanks to those of you out there who are spreading the word about us and increasing awareness about the b-Calm. All in all it was very profitable to be at the event for the chance to meet people, network with other service providers, and increase our visibility. Thanks to the Parent-Educator Connection Staff at Heartland AEA for a job well done and a great event. If you didn’t make it this year, it would definitely be worth your time to take advantage of it next year. Lots of great information and resources for a great price – free. We look forward to being a part of it again next year.

Look for us at the Autism Society of Iowa’s state conference on April 17.

I got involved with b-Calm because I was looking for ways that I’d be able to help my youngest son with his school work & homework. I’ve done quite a bit of research, trying to find information on ADHD. There are sites that say he needs medication, sites that say I must dicipline better, sites that say he has to have this schedule or that, even sites that say he’s imagining it, or just trying to get my attention!

One of the best sites I’ve found for information on ADHD, that lets my son be the individual he is; is The Truth Behind ADHD. There is a video on the site that shows my feelings so clearly, I get teary-eyed thinking about it.

There are parents out there that understand!
